Are Market-Based Salary Structures the New Normal?

The 2012 Survey on Salary Structure Policies and Practices (co-developed and co-sponsored by WorldatWork and Deloitte Consulting LLP) gathered information about current trends in salary structure policies and practices. The survey serves to refresh Greg Stoskopf’s 2002 WorldatWork article “Choosing the Best Salary Structure for your Organization,” which remains one of the most-downloaded documents from the WorldatWork.org website. In the presentation, we will highlight the major findings from our survey, including what types of salary structures are being used by organizations. We will provide a perspective on salary structure trends from 2002 to today and explore design considerations and common practices as they apply to selecting a type of salary structure, competitive position, frequency of salary structure update, and salary structure tools.

In today’s fast-paced and information flooded environment, finding ways to motivate team members has never been more challenging. But wait—before you go back to dreaming up new office contests—there’s new thinking on motivation to explore, and it’s sending the proverbial ‘carrot or stick’ theory to the compost bin.

In Beyond Carrots and Sticks, marketing strategist and organizational change agent, Christine Hollinden, CPSM, presents a new approach to motivation. This session identifies the five major motivational theories and includes a review of how thinking on motivation has progressed beyond ‘carrots and sticks.’ Learn the four drivers of motivation along with action items for bringing each driver to life within your organization. See why this new approach to motivation is more than just a theory and leave with fresh ideas for keeping your team moving ahead.

Over the coming months, survey participants will be asked to complete both a questionnaire and full survey analysis of their organization's LTI structure. Results will be released in August 2013 and will provide participants with valuable long-term incentive award practices. The survey report will specifically address a comprehensive perspective on emerging trends in long-term incentive compensation from the most recent grant cycle, which includes eligibility, award size by employee population, vehicles utilized, and vesting.

L&A understands that utilizing long-term incentive compensation is a vital tool to attract, retain, and motivate top talent, especially as it pertains to the extremely competitive labor market in the energy industry. Market data for LTI compensation will be segmented by energy sector, revenue size, position type, and salary range.

All participants will have access to the results of the initial questionnaire and upon completion, will be given the opportunity to purchase the survey report in full. In addition, participants who complete both the questionnaire and the full survey will receive the newest edition of L&A's book titled, The Power of Restricted Stock. To participate in the 2013 LTI Survey, please contact surveys(at)longnecker(dot)com or call, 281-378-1350.

About Longnecker & Associates
Longnecker & Associates is a large specialty firm focused on Executive and Employee Compensation for public, private and not-for-profit organizations. All participants will have access to the results of the initial questionnaire and upon completion, will be given the opportunity to purchase the survey report in full. In addition, participants who complete both the questionnaire and the full survey will receive the newest edition of L&A's book titled, The Power of Restricted Stock.
