President  – Denise Guerra

Denise Guerra is a Compensation Manager at The Friedkin Group, a privately-held consortium of businesses and investments and affiliated with one of the world’s largest independent Toyota distributors.  She was recently awarded the “Friedkin Award of Excellence” for outstanding customer service.  In her role, she manages all aspects of Compensation for over 3,000 employees.  Her responsibilities include compensation strategy development for executive and incentive compensation. In addition to compensation program development, implementation, and administration for salaried and hourly employees.  Denise brings over 18 years of experience in human resources having worked across multiple industries – financial services, healthcare, chemical, automotive, and oil & gas.  Denise holds a BBA from the Hankamer School of Business at Baylor University, and holds the CCP (Certified Compensation Professional) certification.  She is currently working towards the CBP (Certified Benefits Professional) certification.

Vice President  Ashley Kobelan

Ashley Kobelan is the Compensation Manager at Berry Appleman & Leiden, a global firm singularly focused on meeting the immigration challenges of corporate clients around the world in ways that make immigration more strategic and clients more successful. In her role, she manages all aspects of Compensation for over 1,000 employees. Ashley has held various roles in accounting, finance and human resources over the past 11 years, with her last 5 years focusing in Compensation and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance from Texas State University.

Favorite attribute about HC&B: I value the connections and knowledge I have received since joining the HC&B Program. Through the interactions I have had in each of the meetings I have attended, I have been able to gain valuable knowledge and tools. HC&B draws in Houston’s most intelligent and respected professionals in the field, and I am honored to be a part of the program.
Industry advice: You can never truly know the outcome or the impact that a new opportunity may bring, so always be open to them when they are presented to you. No matter where you are in life, there will always be room to develop personally and professionally. 
Most Interesting Fact about Me: In my free time, I enjoy playing tennis and catching up with my family and friends. I am fortunate to have the majority of my family living in Houston where I was born and raised.













Past President – Robert Vaughan

Robert is a Sr. Retirement Plan Consultant at UBS where he serves the needs of corporations and non-profits.  He was recognized by PlanSponsor as a finalist for "Retirement Plan Advisor Team of the Year" in 2012, '13, '14 & '17 and as one of PlanAdvisor's Top 100 Retirement Advisors from 2012 - 2017. He graduated from Baruch in New York City with a MS in Finance, and later earned the Certified Investment Management Analyst (CIMA®) designations from the Wharton School of Business.  Robert also served in the United States Army and earned the Combat Action Award.

Treasurer – Kerri Franz, CPA

Kerri’s more than twenty years of experience in public accounting has provided her with extensive knowledge of accounting and technical reporting standards, as well as experience with financial audits in various industries, tax and accounting services. She has spent the last ten years practicing in employee benefit plan audits for a variety of industries, including several publically traded companies that sponsor multiple plans.

In addition to being a certified public accountant, Kerri holds memberships with the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Houston chapter of the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants (TSCPA). She graduated cum laude with a bachelor of business administration in accounting from St. Edward’s University in Austin, Texas.

Secretary – Junaid Karimi

Junaid Karimi currently serves as Senior Manager of Total Rewards at BJ Services, a provider of oilfield services in North America. He brings more than a decade of total rewards experience. Prior to joining BJ Services in 2017, Junaid worked in benefits consulting. He started his consulting career with Willis Towers Watson’s Retirement practice and later served as a Senior Consultant with Buck Consultants’ Wealth practice. His areas of expertise include the design, financial management, administration, and communication of global employee rewards programs.

Junaid attended The University of Texas at Austin and received bachelor’s degrees in Actuarial Science and Economics. He is an accredited US pension actuary.

Junaid loves to spend his free time with his family. He also likes to stay involved in the local community.

Most interesting fact about me: I started doing Crossfit a couple of years ago, and wish I had started sooner.












Sponsorship Director – Anthony Scardino

Anthony Scardino is the President at Scardino HR Partners, a private HR Consulting company he established at the beginning of 2020. From March 2016 until the end of 2019, he served as the Director of Total Rewards and Global Mobility at Frank’s International where he directed the design, strategy development, and maintenance of all compensation and executive compensation programs after the company’s IPO in 2013. In this role he also led the transformation of Franks’ benefit programs including development and rollout of the company’s first High Deductible Health Plan and transition of both the company’s 401(k) and equity recordkeepers. Before joining Frank’s, Anthony was the Compensation Manager at Tesco Corporation where he joined the team after holding various HR and Compensation roles at Halliburton. Anthony holds a BBA in Finance and a MS in Human Resource Management from Texas A&M University and attained his PHR from HRCI in 2011.

Industry Advice: If you have to respond with a "no" then you should always be prepared to provide an alternative solution. "No" should never be the end of a conversation at work.

Communications Director – Tamara Walters

Tamara Walters is a Compensation Manager at ISS Facility Services which provides integrated facility services across multiple markets including Aviation, Pharmaceuticals, Retail, Food & Beverage.  In her current role, she manages and implements various pay programs in support of both hourly and salaried roles across the organization.  Additionally, she is responsible for championing equitable and consistent practices for employee attraction, promotion and retention through collaboration with C-suite leadership. She has worked in various other industries over the past 15 years ranging from Software, Cable & High Tech,  Pharmaceutical,  Consulting and Waste Services. Tamara holds a BBA in Accounting and Management from Sam Houston State University, an MBA in Finance from LeTourneau University, and most recently has obtained her Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) designation through WorldAtWork. She enjoys mentoring others and sharing professional compensation knowledge with others interested in or currently in the field.

Professional Development Director – Alexis Bailey

Alexis Bailey is the Global Compensation Manager at NOV, a leader in the design, manufacture, and sale of equipment and components used in oil and gas drilling and production, oilfield services, and supply chain integration services. In her role, she manages all aspects of compensation for a global community of over 30,000 employees. She has over 10 years of experience in Compensation within the oil services industry and has also held roles within global mobility and benefits. She has a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Southwestern University and a master’s degree in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from Middle Tennessee State University. Alexis also maintains the CCP (Certified Compensation Professional) and GRP (Global Remuneration Professional) certifications.

Membership Director – Kalia McKinley

Kalia McKinley is a Senior Compensation Analyst at American National Insurance Company, American National is a group of companies writing a broad array of insurance products and services and operating in all 50 states. The parent company, American National Insurance Company, was founded in 1905 and is headquartered in Galveston, Texas. In her role, she manages all aspects of Compensation for over 3,000 employees. Kalia has held a Compensation role in various companies over the past 14 years. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Prairie View A & M University and two Master’s from Webster University.

Programs Director – Eric Fuller

Eric is the Head of HR for Conquest Completion Services, LLC, a leading provider of large diameter coiled tubing and related completion services controlled by Warburg Pincus. Eric joined Conquest in 2018 with over 10 years Energy and HR experience, where he has led teams in Talent Acquisition, Talent Management, HR Operations and Total Rewards. Eric received his BBA from Hankamer School of Business at Baylor University and his MS in HR from Mays Business School at Texas A&M.

At Large- Lisa Tran

Lisa joined BP as a Rewards Analyst in 2019.   

Previously, Lisa worked in various HR and compensation roles with Schlumberger for five years.  Over this time, she worked on Schlumberger’s compensation philosophy, processes, and policies.

Lisa has Masters of Human Resource Management degree from Rutgers and is currently pursuing the CCP designation.

At Large – Rob Pesch

Rob currently serves as the President of the Texas Total Rewards Alliance, He has 15 years of experience working with employers on the design, strategy and administration of health and benefit plans. Rob is a Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS). In addition to serving on the Board for the Houston Compensation & Benefits and Texas Total Rewards, Rob is a Director on the Southwest Benefits Association (SWBA) board.
